IPL Chief Lalit Modi was present at Siddharth Mallya’s (Vijay Mallya’s son) wedding in the United Kingdom. In 2010, Modi, who is accused of tax evasion and money laundering, was suspended from the BCCI.
Lalit Modi, the former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner, reportedly made an appearance at Siddharth Mallya’s wedding in the UK. According to a Hindustan Times report This past weekend (June 22), a stately home in Hertfordshire hosted the event.
Lalit Modi has been missing since he was charged with financial offences. He faced allegations of financial irregularities and misconduct in 2010, which led to his suspension from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Modi, who was the acting Chairman of the IPL Governing Council at the time, and representatives of World Sports Group (WSG) were accused by the BCCI of cheating the organisation out of ₹735 crore.
Siddharth’s father, Vijay Mallya, is also on the run after being charged with a ₹9,000 crore loan scam.
Referred to as the ‘King of Good Times,’ Vijay Mallya left India in March 2016 and has since made his home in the UK. Mallya, who is well-known for leading an opulent lifestyle, first made his money with Kingfisher beer before starting Kingfisher Airlines and a Formula 1 business. After beginning operations in 2005, Kingfisher Airlines discontinued operations in 2012 as a result of growing losses and debt.
Mallya is being investigated by India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). In July 2022, the Supreme Court sentenced him to four months in jail for a 2017 contempt of court case. Despite India’s efforts, extraditing Mallya has been unsuccessful so far.
In Tewin, Hertfordshire, a $14 million mansion hosted Siddharth Mallya’s nuptials. He posted photos from the occasion to Instagram, showing a Hindu ceremony that was followed by a Christian wedding. Just before leaving India in 2015, Vijay Mallya purchased the estate, known as “Ladywalk,” from Anthony Hamilton, the father of Formula One star Lewis Hamilton. The 30-acre estate features multiple tennis courts, fountains, and swimming pools.
On Halloween of 2023, Siddharth and his wife, Jasmine, made an announcement about their engagement. Jasmine, a US resident, keeps a low profile. Siddharth is an actor and model who was born in California and raised in the United Arab Emirates and London. At the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, he pursued his studies in drama. He used to frequently attend Indian Premier League games to support his beloved Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), but after his father left India, he has been less noticeable.
