Regarding Sanju Samson’s dismissal, Kumar Sangakkara Says “Depends On…”

The director of cricket of Rajasthan Royals, Kumar Sangakkara, feels his side should have won the match despite skipper Sanju Samson’s dramatic dismissal after his team lost to Delhi Capitals by 20 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the IPL 2024. Samson struck an impressive 46 balls for 86 runs, timing all eight of his fours and six of his sixes like a pro.

After examining many angles, third umpire Michael Gough was unable to locate any proof that Hope’s boots had made touch with the boundary rope. As a result, the call was declared out. After watching the replays, Samson started to back off, but when he saw “OUT” flash on the screen, he protested by approaching the umpires and even attempted to request a review, but in vain.

Samson, who is now in third place in the Orange cap race, has been among the runs for RR with 471 runs in 11 games, including five half-centuries. Sangakkara acknowledged that Samson’s inability to accumulate runs at a steady pace, along with his struggle to avoid being outscored by spin and, more crucially, to increase his strike-rate when necessary, was widely recognized as a weakness in previous seasons.

Sangakkara Praises Samson’s Talent, Stays Neutral on India’s Primary Wicketkeeper for T20 World Cup

“He prefers his solitude and doesn’t use social media often. He genuinely has the group’s best interests at heart. Therefore, in addition to his talent and expertise, they are excellent attributes to have. He would thus, in my opinion, be outstanding in that group heading into the World Cup. Once more, he just possesses extraordinary skill against both speed and spin. He is not bothered by turns or fast speeds. All that has to be done is to maintain the goal and concentrate on the areas where he performs well.

A quality ball should go for one or two as well; it’s not only about the sixes and fours. Once more, though, he can play any shot in the book. Sangakkara said, “He’s just really gifted against spin, and he’s got great power to clear the boundaries.”

In closing, he refrained from endorsing Samson or Pant as India’s primary wicketkeeper-batter for the forthcoming T20 World Cup. “I believe he’s already included in the World Cup team, correct? Really, I’m not sure. It truly depends on how Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma perceive the combo. But now that he’s established his case, perhaps he can go far in the World Cup.
