Rohit Sharma to lead Team India in ODIs against Sri Lanka? Here’s what the report says.

It will be the first tour for Gautam Gambhir as Team India’s Head Coach. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on July 9 that Gambhir is the new head coach of Team India. He is replacing batting legend Rahul Dravid.

Reports say Gautam Gambhir wanted Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah. He wanted them to join the ODI match against Sri Lanka. He wanted them to play in the match. However, as per the latest news report, Rohit Sharma has agreed to the head coach’s request.

Hindustan Times reported that the opener and captain will return to play. They will be back for the ODI series against Sri Lanka. The report also said that Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah will continue their long breaks. They will now play in the Test series against Bangladesh. It is set to start on September 19.

The ODI series against Sri Lanka will begin or start on 2nd August. The second and third ODIs will be on 4th August and 7th August. Sharma has played 159 T20 internationals. He retired on a high note after leading his team to their second T20 World Cup win.

Earlier on July 15, Rohit Sharma had said that he will continue to play Test and ODI cricket “at least for a while”. “I said it. I don’t look that far ahead. The 37-year-old stated at a Dallas event on Sunday night, “You will see me playing,”

The T20 leadership role is vacant. Rohit Sharma had left it when he bid adieu to his T20 career. Now, Suryakumar Yadav has captained India in eight T20 Internationals.
