Varun Dhawan on Nepotism and His Niece Anjini Dhawan’s Debut in ‘Binny and Family’

Varun Dhawan recently attended the trailer launch of his niece Anjini’s debut film, ‘Binny and Family.” It was in Mumbai. Anjini plays a rebellious teenager in London. She stars with veterans like Pankaj Kapur, her conservative grandfather. Also, Himani Shivpuri, Rajesh Kumar, and Charu Shankar. The film explores a generational clash during a family visit to the UK.

At the event, Varun made a stylish entry. It reminded him of his own trailer launch for ‘Student of the Year’ at the same venue. He asked the audience to show Anjini the same affection they had shown his co-stars, Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt, during their debut. He stressed, despite public belief, that Anjini earned her role in ‘Binny and Family’ on her own, not through family influence.

Varun clarified that the film’s producer, Mahaveer Jain, is not connected to his family. He learned of Anjini’s involvement through friends, Shashank Khaitan and Varun Gupta. He stressed, “People find it hard to believe, despite my saying she did this on her own. She comes from a film family.” I have no professional ties to Mahaveer Jain, nor does my father. She got this film on her own.”

Varun also explained why his father, director David Dhawan, didn’t launch his career. He explained that his family does not launch their own children. His father won’t use his influence to kickstart careers. He said, “My father never launched me. We don’t have that tradition. It’s important to make it on your own, and Anjini has done that.”

Someone asked Varun, during the event, how becoming a father had changed his view. In June, Varun and his wife Natasha Dalal welcomed a baby girl. He revealed, “Fatherhood has reshaped my perspective. It’s a strange feeling. Your parents scolded you. Then, you walk into your baby’s room, and she’s scolding you too! That’s when you realize your place in the family. But that’s part of adulting. Luckily, my elder brother shares some of the responsibilities. As we grow older, we start to worry about our parents’ health, as they once worried about us. My strength comes from my mother, and I’m sure she feels the same.”

Directed by Ssanjay Tripaathy, ‘Binny and Family’ is set to release in theaters on September 20. Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan is preparing for his next film, ‘Baby John.’ It’s an action movie set for a Christmas release. Fans recently spotted him in a cameo role in the hit horror-comedy ‘Stree 2’.
