Chennai: Star Indian batter Virat Kohli clinched the Orange Cap in the 2024 IPL season, becoming the first Indian to win this prestigious award twice. Representing Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Kohli amassed 741 runs in 15 matches, boasting an average of 61.75. His performance included one century and five half-centuries, with a highest score of 113* and a strike rate of 154.69—his best ever in an IPL season. Kohli also hit 38 sixes, matching his 2016 record when he scored 973 runs.
Despite RCB exiting in the eliminator against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Kohli’s exceptional form earned widespread acclaim. Over his IPL career, spanning 252 matches, Kohli has scored 8,004 runs at an average of 38.66, with a strike rate of 131.97, including eight centuries and 55 half-centuries.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad secured the second spot with 583 runs in 14 matches, averaging 53.00 with a highest score of 108* and a strike rate of 141.16. Rajasthan Royals’ Riyan Parag, having a breakout season, followed closely with 573 runs in 16 matches, averaging 52.09 and striking at 149.21.
Other notable performers included Travis Head (Sunrisers Hyderabad) with 567 runs, Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals) with 531 runs, Sai Sudharsan (Gujarat Titans) with 527 runs, KL Rahul (Lucknow Super Giants) with 520 runs, and Nicholas Pooran (Lucknow Super Giants) with 499 runs.

Kohli will next be seen in action at the ICC T20 World Cup, starting June 1 in the West Indies and USA, where he is the tournament’s highest run-scorer with 1,141 runs at an average of 81.50 in 27 matches.
In the IPL 2024 final, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). SRH, batting first, were bowled out for 113 in 18.3 overs, with Pat Cummins (24) and Aiden Markram (20) being the only batsmen to score above 20. Andre Russell was the standout bowler for KKR with 3/19, supported by Mitchell Starc (2/14), and Harshit Rana (2/24). KKR chased down the target to claim their third title and first since 2014.
